Great idea :)
Things I find neat:
Yarn bombing
Social Media
Technology
Hand made stuff
and whatever else I happen upon
Great idea :)
A couple of weeks ago I bought some embroidery needles. I just need to get around to trying it. Likely I’ve been putting it off is because I went to a specialty store and the woman seemed to really look down on me because I didn’t know what I was looking for, only that I wanted to learn. I very much dislike that attitude. Elitism in the arts is what makes them so exclusionary.
Anyway, when I do get around to it, I see myself working on stuff like this. It looks like my doodles from my note books :)

It seems like a burden of our times; however, its a concern that is brought up whenever there is a culture shift in the way we consume information. sorts through the history of people crying that the new technology is stealing the previous generations souls (okay, maybe that was a little too dramatic) and conculdes by saying ” If anything, the data show that people who use social networking sites actually tend to have better offline social lives, while those who play computer games are better than nongamers at absorbing and reacting to information with no loss of accuracy or increased impulsiveness”.
Interesting stuff! It also makes me feel good about my Social Media and Xbox addiction :P

In March, I’m throwing a dance party/ installation at aceartinc here in Winnipeg. This is a concept I’ve been toying with for years, but up until now, I’ve never pulled it off.
I’ve always been fascinated by pirate broadcast media and by flashmobs… and I’ve been wondering if there isn’t a way to sort of tie the aesthetics of the two together. You know a bunch of people dancing silently all wearing headphones, plus some broadcast radio gear….. I’ve always wanted to fill a room with people dancing to the same music with no sound system, so I got some people in Connecticut to build me a transmitter, and I booked a bunch of Djs and we’re gonna have ourselves an old fashioned silent dance party :).As I VJ, I wanted to contribute a live video mix as well, but didn’t want to push it with projections given the broadcast theme. So I found a commercially available UHF transmitter and will be broadcasting the signal to vintage TVs throughout the space :)
I am super excited to pull this off . So if you’re willing, WPG tumblrs.. come out please :).
